My Favorite Hummus

One recipe I make on a weekly basis, because of the simplicity, taste and health benefits, is hummus. The main ingredient in hummus is garbanzo beans which have a delicious nut-like taste and buttery texture, yet are somewhat starchy and pasty. They provide a concentrated source of protein along with digestive tract support, a unique supply of antioxidants, decreased cardiovascular risks, and better regulation of blood sugar.

Garbanzo beans originated in the Middle East, can be enjoyed year-round and are available either dried or canned.

I love the versatility, whether served as a meal or snack, hummus can be enjoyed with your choice of veggies, organic tortilla chips, whole grain tortillas and, also, made into romaine lettuce wraps.

My Favorite Hummus

1 15 ounce can organic garbanzo beans, drained & rinsed and outer skins removed

3/4 tsp cumin

1/4 tsp sea salt

2 Tbsp organic lemon juice (or lime juice)

1 Tbsp Wildtree Natural Grapeseed Oil (where to buy) along with 3 drops Young Living Lemon Essential Oil* (where to buy) or YLEO Lime Essential Oil

1 heaping tsp. of garlic, minced

Blend all ingredients in a food processor till relatively smooth. Then, add 1-3 tbsp of filtered water in a thin stream. Don’t add too much — just enough to get the whole mix creamy and smooth! Check seasonings, and adjust if desired. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to enjoy. Yields: 1 1/3 cups

Subbing lime juice and lime eo to this recipe is a nice change, too!!

**I love the Lemon Essential Oil in this recipe! It adds an extra depth of lemon that is so delicious!

*** A new variation I made today turned out delicious, also. I substituted Wildtree’s Chipotle Lime Rub for the cumin and lime juice for the lemon juice, and used the Natural Grapeseed Oil.
